Sorry you didn't agree with the article, but I relied on statistics such as those located at http://www.dogsbite.org/pdf/dog-attack-deaths-maimings-2010.pdf

For those who don't want to crunch the numbers, I will reprint the author's summariy:

Any law strong enough and directed enough to prevent the majority of lifethreatening dog attacks must discriminate heavily against pit bulls, Rottweilers, wolf hybrids, and perhaps Akitas and chows ...

Wow, Im sorry but this is twisted and sad. I beg you to please actually educate yourself before posting something like this, esp being an editor. You would learn that pitt bulls are not the common dog breed for dog bites or attacks in the city of ft worth or any city in dfw for that matter. You would also learn that Pitt bulls have a better temper than americas beloved golden retriever which is high on the list for dog attacks and bites than pitts in most cities. Also, the issue isnt the breed its bad owners and not getting your dogs fixed. Walking up to a fence and a dog barking at you because it doesnt know who you are or hwy you are there is natural! it doesnt mean its a danger! Hell if that's the case then all the chihuahuas are in the same boat! And all little dogs for that matter! they! are more agressive but their attacks go unreported which is a shame bc more kids get attacked by them! Pitts are getting the same rap ask rotts and dobies! and akitas will be next!! PLEASE!! actually educate yourself before forming an opinion!! the news gets to choose what facts you do and dont get!! remember that!!

I, too, employ a pit-bull who is the most tender animal I've ever owned. Quickly, a new dog breed will occur along for that media to blast, as they have accomplished rotties and dobies in preceding many years. Unfortunate that media sensationalism breeds so much inaccurate information.

Thanks for the comment. I hope lots of people, including those who own pit bulls and other large dogs and can share what they feel about the situation, will attend the meetings.

I would like to personally invite citizens to participate in the public review process. Fort Worth has far too many strays, too many aggressive dogs attacking citizens and too many dogs that are living in unsanitary conditions without proper shelter, food and water. These meetings are all about collecting ideas and solutions, not about breed specific issues. If you cannot make it, send us your thoughts: codecares@fortworthgov.org.

Thanks!
